Decluttering Learnt From Lockdown

Tricks to help you make the tough decisions

No doubt you have seen the show, perhaps even read the book and followed her simple rules to declutter your home. This is now a phenomenon that’s been taking us by storm and there seems to be hardly anyone who hasn’t jumped on this bandwagon. A lot of people have asked about the same questions wondering if this way of organizing a space could help their business as well. If you have an online store or at any point in time while growing your hand made business have felt confused, overwhelmed or lost about what direction your next move should be, then this article is for you.The Japanese tidying consultant has been spreading the word about her house-organizing method called KonMari for years, and books like “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying up” and “Spark Joy,” have helped her take the no-nonsense approach to tidying to the world. How does Marie Kondo’s tidying method go about helping you declutter artfully? It starts with a question: If it doesn’t spark joy, out it goes. Therefore, in an ideal world, that means all the things you keep should spark some level of joy. She’s the woman who’s recently swept over the nation in a wave of tidying and de-cluttering mania (that was pretty much created by her, by the way), and is responsible for all of us realising how ridiculous we were keeping stuff in our homes without even thinking about it and thus sparking a mass decluttering period which has left many of us in more mess than ever before.Konmari’s name has even become a ‘Verbing’, with everything from socks to underwear getting a Konmari-ing (see what I did there?) — that is, to be crammed into some kind of tidiness. There are already countless parodies and memes of Marie Kondo, but we can’t blame anyone because the book and its content are so appealing—even for those who had not planned to read it.Ever since she cracked our collective knuckles with the hardcover version of her book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, there has been nary a living room, closet, or bedroom in America that isnt up in arms about how to best purge their belongings.
